Nel video ho cercato di analizzare le dinamiche associate alla guida di un qualsiasi veicolo a due ruote analogo alla bici o alla moto, facendo uso di conoscenze di fisica a livello di liceo e di pura e semplice logica... Qualcosa potrebbe essermi sfuggito, qualcosa potrebbe meritare correzione; tuttavia ciò che espongo qui corrisponde a ciò che ho osservato su strada, in particolare la riprova che il passaggio da bici tradizionale a bici reclinata, come pure la partenza da fermi su reclinate molto "sdraiate", non sono poi così difficili e sono alla portata di tutti con giusto un po' di attenzione. / <i>Again no will to appear as the "professor", again using the good old Lego for doing experiments and for better realizing the outcomes. Il post è stato anche condiviso sulla edizione online locale e nazionale. Chissà che veramente le cose, a furia di insistere, possano cambiare. Abbiamo percorso - a piedi - circa 60 km in tre giorni. Sicuramente un ottimo modo di visitare Londra, godendo di ogni scorcio. Sono però riuscito a convincere Elisa a lasciarmi provare una bici a noleggio e abbiamo organizzato una sfida sul percorso Hotel tra bici e Bus. La partenza è in zona Baker Street, dove c'è la casa di Sherlock Holmes e l'arrivo al Big Ben. Circa 5 miglia, 8 km. Nonostante alcune fermate e difficoltà nella guida reversa, la bici (ovviamente) vince. Elisa non lo ammette, come al solito, ma la bici è il mezzo più efficiente. Sono però rimasto un po' deluso. Poche bici in giro (magari per via delle feste, erano tutti in ferie), poche vere ciclabili. Traffico caotico e pedoni indisciplinati. Finché non ci vai, sembra che in giro siano tutti come in Olanda, , poi, invece, la realtà è che sono messi quasi tutti come a Borgomanero.</span></div>

Ho sostituito il movimento centrale, dal momento che il vecchio aveva dei problemi e ho approfittato anche per aggiungere un rinforzo in carbonio che irrigidisce la zona. Ora la pedalata è più diretta e si scarica meglio la potenza, specie in salita. Ho anche acquistato un casco aero, da crono, che sembra fare una certa differenza. Credo che un mezzo km orario a 40 all'ora si guadagni. Purtroppo non riesco a fare delle vere prove comparative, visto che la stagione non lo consente. In ogni caso ho percorso circa 130 km e devo dire che nessuno, assolutamente nessuno dei ciclisti che ho incontrato lungo la strada è riuscito a stare lontanamente dietro a questo mostro a due ruote. E vi assicuro ci hanno provato a starmi dietro. Difficile stare SOTTO ai 40 in pianura, è un mezzo incredibile. Anche in salita va più che bene. Anzi, sugli strappi brevi, è mostruosa.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Dopo un approfondito studio scientifico cinematico ergonomico (... ma non credeteci neanche un po'!) soprattutto dopo aver avuto l'opportunità di assaggiare alcune diverse biciclette reclinate, mi son fatto... una certa idea. Avevo in mente un obiettivo specifico: volevo una "GT", ovvero una bici capace di una buona resa ma che mettesse davanti al puro redimento velocistico alcuni requisiti tipicamente da stradista, in particolare che consentisse di non dover curare attentamente lo stato della strada e che minimizzasse gli stress dovuti alla guida. In breve, vai e pedala per ore concentrandoti solo sul traffico (e sul panorama, quando si può), alla miglior media possibile. </span><br />
<a name='more'></a><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">La mia scelta è ricaduta su una tipologia inconsueta, cosiddetta "passo lungo compatta", CLWB per usare l'ennesimo acronimo americano: un tipo di reclinata che ha spopolato nel nuovo continente all'inizio del millennio per una decina d'anni o poco più. Stando a informazioni trovate in rete, oltre alla storia della Bike-E si narra di diverse proposte offerte da numerosi piccoli costruttori, ma anche da HP Velotechnik e Optima nel vecchio continente, e nientemeno che da Cannondale tra marchi ancora più famosi. Il fallimento della capostipite e l'avvicendarsi delle mode ha purtroppo relegato la categoria a una piccola nicchia, all'interno del mondo delle reclinate che di per sé è già una nicchia. Tra i vari costruttori, la canadese Maxarya ha tenuto duro per vent'anni (festeggia il ventennale proprio nel 2019) e produce la bici che mi ha convinto a fare l'investimento. Investimento in realtà neanche esagerato, sia in confronto alle soddisfazioni che mi sta dando sia nel confronto con diverse reclinate realizzate da altri costruttori ad analogo livello qualitativo. Allego di seguito alcuni video che riportano le mie prime impressioni, ai quali aggiungo qui solo poche considerazioni tecniche alla luce di un giro cicloturistico di quasi tre ore. La posizione di pedalata è comoda e "naturale" (ma in natura esistono biciclette?) senza indurre fastidi anche dopo ore; soprattutto il formicolio ai piedi, che per me è un problema ricorrente in reclinata, mi compare solo dopo un'ora di sforzo intenso, mentre per esempio sul trike compare dopo 20 minuti tirando o 40 a passeggio. Non voglio aggiungere altri commenti basati solo su sensazioni, ci saranno da fare rilevamenti strumentali, tuttavia posso già dire che le velocità medie mi hanno sorpreso nonostante la trasmissione con doppio giro di catena, la posizione poco aerodinamica del busto eretto e le gomme, scorrevoli sì ma appartenenti alla categoria turismo e non velocità. La facilità di guida è decisamente superiore alle altre reclinate che ho provato, addirittura m'è sembrata meglio di tante bici tradizionali. L'ammortizzatore è solo dietro, ma davanti il carico sulla ruota è talmente ridotto che tombini e dossi non sono affatto un problema, mentre il molleggio posteriore è un vero piacere e aggiunge sicurezza, senza tra l'altro reazioni legate alla pedalata. Ultima ma non per ultima la sicurezza: la frenata è super, soprattutto priva di ogni rischio di ribaltamento in avanti, e anche se il comportamento è sensibilmente sottosterzante basta sfiorare la leva del freno posteriore per trasformare ogni curva presa alla garibaldina in una curva sicura.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><i>After a deep scientific study into cinematics and ergonomics (... dont believe a single word!) but above all after riding a small variety of different recumbent bikes, I had... an idea. I was long thinking about a specific project: a "GT" bike, meaning that it had to be fairly efficient but with priority to a series of features oriented towards road riding (mean everyday's roads), in particular somethings allowing to not care the road imperfections and asking for little stress to keep control. In a few words, just go and care traffic (or panorama, when possible) for hours, at the highest possible pace compatible with the previous requirements. My choice then fell upon an uncommon type of recumbent, the Compact Long Wheel Base (CLWB), quite popular especially in America at the beginning of the millennium and for ten years or so. Informations found on the net tell about the Bike-E boom, followed by a number of other manufacturers, including HP Velotechnik and Optima in Europe and even the much more famous Cannondale brand. But after Bike-E closed, the turnover of trends made the CLWB segment sink and left it as a niche almost hidden in the niche of the recumbent bicycle world. Though, among manufacturers, Maxarya brand based in Canada held strong and this year counts twenty years of activity, producing the Ray2 recumbent bike that convinced me it was time to make the investment. Investment quickly proving to be definitely worth, both compared to the good results and in a comparison with many other different recumbents of equivalent quality.</i></span></div>

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><i>Find attached some videos below, taken in the early rides, and some technical comments after a first three hours tour with a group of friends. The riding position is comfortable and "natural" (do bicycle exist in nature?) with no pains even after hours of continuous riding; an issue I've always suffered with recumbents is losing toes sensitivity, for example riding the trike they get asleep after 20 minutes pushing hard or 40 minutes at low pace, while here it happened only after one hour of hard riding. Now I'm not going to add comments based on sensations, better wait to take accurate measurings; though, despite the two chains, the erect seat position and the tires (good rollers but still belonging to the touring category), the average speed of a fast paced ride were surprisingly high. Riding easiness is surprising too, sure better than most of the recumbents I could try so far, but even easier than a good number of traditional bikes. The suspension is on the rear wheel only, but the load upon the front one is so light that pits and bumps are no trouble at all, while the rear is comfortable and adds riding safety too, smooth and fully unaffected by hard strokes on pedals. Last but not least, riding safety: braking is excellent, without any risks of tipping over, and despite the clear feeling of the intrinsic understeering behavior, just caressing the rear brake will change a wrong turn into a safe turn.</i></span></div>
